Earthquake kills more than a thousand in Morocco :

Morocco, Agency. The earthquake that struck Morocco late Friday night killed 1,037 people, while more than 1,200 were injured. The condition of 721 of the injured is critical. The intensity of the earthquake was measured at 6.8 on the Richter scale. At the same time, many world leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi present at the G20 conference expressed grief over the accident.

The impact of the earthquake extended from the city of Marrakesh to the villages located on the Atlas Mountains. Most of the deaths occurred in Marrakesh and five provinces near the epicenter. In such a situation, there is a possibility of the death toll increasing. After the earthquake, power supply came to a standstill in the affected areas.

Earthquake of 6.8 magnitude on Richter scale occurred. 12th century Qutubiya Mosque also damaged and traffic was disrupted due to piles of debris at various places.

According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake occurred at 11:11 pm local time. At this time most of the people were in deep sleep. People ran to save their lives. The epicenter of this earthquake was in the city of Ighil in Al Houz province, about 70 kilometers south of Marrakesh.

People there are in pain and panic due to the earthquake that occurred late Friday night in Morocco. Signs of devastation, pain and fear can be seen everywhere. Such a massive earthquake has occurred in this African country after 120 years. Hundreds of lives are still feared trapped under the debris.

The biggest challenge before the rescue team is to reach the victims. There are damaged buildings everywhere, leaving piles of debris scattered on the streets. Roads are closed and every minute is costing the lives of the stranded people. More devastation in remote mountainous areas. 

There is a possibility of. The Moroccan army and emergency services are trying to provide assistance, but roads leading into the mountainous region around the epicenter were blocked by debris from vehicles and rocks.

Even before this, strong earthquakes have shaken the world many times.  On February 6 this year, an earthquake caused massive devastation in Turkey-Syria.  More than 50 thousand people lost their lives here, while in Syria also more than five thousand people were killed.  In June 2022, more than 1500 people died due to the earthquake in Afghanistan.

In the year 2004, there was a devastating earthquake in South Asia, its intensity was 9.1 on the Richter scale, in which about 27000 deaths occurred in 14 countries including India and Indonesia.

Historic city destroyed :

The 12th century Kutubiya Mosque, one of the most famous sites of the city of Marrakesh, has been damaged, it is believed that the earthquake has badly damaged the ancient buildings of this historic city.

The victims narrated their ordeal :

An earthquake victim said that he was in deep sleep when the earthquake struck. The house was shaking badly. As soon as he realized, he quickly ran out of the house. Another person said that stones and things hanging on the wall started falling.

Areas are badly affected :

The provinces of Ouarzazate, Chichoua, Ajilal and Youssefia, Marrakesh, Agadir, Rabat, Casablanca, Essaouira, El-Hauj and Taroudant are badly affected. People are afraid to go into their homes and are spending the night in the open on the streets.
